Countries and Regions Forum - Russia

«Countries and Regions Forum - Russia»
at China Mining Congress & Expo 2008
12 November in Beijing

Minex Group in partnership with the China Mining Congress & Expo held on 12 November the Russian Regions Mining Forum. The forum was organised alongside the main three-day agenda of the 10th China Mining Congress in Beijing. Traditionally only Canada, Australia and South Africa were holding their country promotional sessions at China Mining. Thanks to Minex and China Mining cooperation agreement signed in September this year, the Russian Mining was given a prominent place at the Congress and attracted considerable attention from Mining Companies and Investors from China and Anglo-Saxon world.

China Mining Congress is the world's 4th largest Mining Event and is the biggest Mining Forum in the Asian World. Over 2000 delegates from 43 counties registered for the congress this year. More than 400 exhibition booths have been booked by Chinese and International Companies at China Mining Expo. Over 10 000 visitors visited the exhibition. Congress agenda was packed with over 100 speaker presentations.

In the times of the global financial turmoil China is playing an active stabilising role by pledging its support to both national and global economies. Earlier this week, Chinese President announced plans to boost in the next two years investment in China's real estate and Infrastructure sector investing over 500 billion US dollars which would support mining , metallurgical and construction businesses and increase demand for row mineral materials produced and imported in China. These news were warmly greeted by the China Mining Delegates. Many analysts agreed that 2008 marked a shift of economic and financial power to the Asian and BRIC countries who currently control over 30% of the global currency reserves. Traditionally leading mining countries like Canada, Australia, South Africa and the US are now actively seeking investors from China and the BRIC countries. For this reason, organisation of the Russian Session at China Mining was very timely and important for opening new business opportunities to both Russian and Chinese mining companies and investors.

The session was supported by SRK Consulting and GV Gold mining company.

Session agenda focused on current Subsoil regulation in Russia (presented by Alexey Kondratchik, Counsel at White & Case, Moscow office), Mining Practices & Reserve / Resource reporting practices (presented by Andrey Melnikov, Head of Business Evaluation, Principal Economist, SRK Consulting Russia), Development of the Gold Mining Industry in Russia (presented by Natalia Andreeva, Chief Financial Officer, GV Gold) and identification of new target regions in the Altaids of Central Asia, Kazakhstan and Russia through geotraverses and terrain reconstructions (presented by Dr. Reimar Seltmann, Head of Centre for Russian and Central EurAsian Mineral Studies, Natural History Museum, Dept. Mineralogy).

The session was followed by Questions and Answer session and exchange of opinions. Session participations expressed
